What you should keep in mind when handling fishing magnets

• The adhesive force of fishing magnets is tremendous and must not to be underestimated. Wear protective gloves to avoid injury and always handle retrieving magnets carefully.
• Fishing magnets are equipped with neodymium magnets. These magnets are brittle by nature. Colliding violently with metal objects or other magnets could cause the retrieval magnet to chip or even break.

The bigger the fishing magnet the better?

All sorts of fishing magnets with colossal adhesive forces of 800 kg, 1 000 kg or more are available online. At first, this gives the impression that it is possible to retrieve huge treasures from the water. But please keep in mind: If such a fishing magnet fully attaches to a heavy metallic object in the water, it will be very difficult for you to pull it up. Not to mention, detaching the magnet afterwards. And we don’t even want to think of the injuries that could be caused by these strong retrieval magnets. That is why you can’t go wrong with our fishing magnets with an adhesive force of up to 200 kg. With these magnetic strengths, you can already retrieve sizeable objects from the water.

Knots for tying the rope to the fishing magnet

Many experienced magnet fishermen recommend the so-called Palomar knot to attach the rope to the retrieving magnet. Correctly tied, it is reliable and strong; and therefore perfect for magnet fishing. We will show step-by-step how you can tie this knot in the FAQ about magnet fishing.

Transport and storage of fishing magnets

Store fishing magnets well shielded. Once magnets accidentally make contact with ferromagnetic surfaces, it is generally no fun trying to separate them again. Our cases with foam inserts, for example, are great for transport and storage. They provide a buffer around the fishing magnet.
Before storing your retrieving magnet, remove all dirt and dry it thoroughly. Otherwise, the magnet could start to rust and, over time, lose its magnetisation.

Rope care

When working with the fishing magnet, make sure that you don’t drag the rope over any sharp edges. This could damage the rope or, in a worst-case scenario, it could snap. If the rope is dirty after magnet fishing, hand-wash it in clean water and let it dry afterwards. However, do not dry it by laying it outside in the sun or near radiators inside. Direct sunlight and heat could make the rope brittle and it may lose its load-bearing capacity. Also, avoid storing the rope when wet, as this can limit its lifespan. And finally: Check your rope regularly for damage and replace it when necessary. It would be a pity for the rope to break during magnet fishing and for you to lose your fishing magnet.

• Fishing magnet with rope
• Protective gloves, cut-resistant and water-proof
• Storage case for the fishing magnet
• Container for found objects, e.g. our dump pouch
• Cloth for drying the fishing magnet

• Loctite, for securing the screw/nut on the fishing magnet
• Wellington boots
• Grappling hook, which will make bringing objects to the surface easier
• Sunscreen and/or insect repellent
